The quick answer

Estimate your obligation using GBP values for the relevant date, make the appropriate intention and give through a route that reaches eligible recipients. Keep Zakat, voluntary giving and other religious payments distinct.

Prepare the calculation

Use your established Zakat date and the same valuation date for savings, gold, investments and any other eligible assets. Convert foreign-currency holdings to GBP. Record your sources and the scholarly treatment chosen for investments, pensions and debts.

Choose an eligible recipient or agent

You may give directly where the relevant requirements are met or use an organisation that can distribute Zakat appropriately. Ask how it verifies recipients, records restrictions and handles ownership or agency requirements. An organisation’s name or charity status alone does not establish every religious condition.

Make and record the payment

Use the correct intention and payment designation. Retain the receipt, date and amount, and track it against your annual liability. A general donation, a Fitrana payment or disposal of interest should not be counted automatically as Zakat.

Check UK donor details

Gift Aid is a separate tax scheme with organisation and donor requirements. The World Aid Network parent site reported it unavailable when checked on 8 September 2026. Check its current status and giving routes.
