# Privacy Policy

This policy explains how World Aid Network collects, uses and protects your personal data when you use this website or make a donation.

Last updated: 11 August 2026

## 1. Who we are

World Aid Network is the data controller for personal data collected through this website (zakat-calculator.org.uk).

International House, 51 Borough High Street, London SE1 1NB
Telephone: [020 4622 0003](tel:+442046220003)
Email: [privacy@worldaidnetwork.org](mailto:privacy@worldaidnetwork.org)

## 2. What data we collect and why

### When you make a donation

We collect the following personal data to process your donation:
- Name and email address — to send a donation confirmation and maintain donation records
- Donation details — amount, cause, donation type (one-off or monthly), and your optional message

Legal basis: Contract (processing your donation). Gift Aid is currently unavailable on this form and no new Gift Aid declaration is collected.

### When you use the Zakat Calculator

The calculator performs its arithmetic in your browser. Entered values are saved in local storage in this browser profile so you can return to them. Refreshing does not clear them. Use “Start fresh / clear saved inputs” or clear site data to remove the saved values. Anyone using the same browser profile may be able to access them.

The “Copy save link” feature encodes financial values in the URL fragment; it is not encryption. Anyone with that link can read them. Do not share it publicly. Downloaded records are saved to your device. Opening the donation page passes the requested donation amount so it can be prefilled; completing checkout sends the donation information to our payment service.

### When you subscribe to Zakat reminders

If you sign up for Ramadan and Zakat reminders, we store your email address solely to send those reminders. We do not share it with any third party.

Legal basis: Consent. You may withdraw at any time by emailing us or clicking the unsubscribe link in any email.

### Technical data

Our web server records standard access logs (IP address, browser type, page visited, timestamp). These are used for security monitoring and are deleted after 30 days.

### Analytics (optional)

If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand aggregate site usage (for example, which pages are visited). Analytics loads only after you click Accept. The homepage, calculator routes, donation routes and pages opened with a saved-calculation fragment do not load optional analytics. Page URLs sent from other pages exclude the query string and fragment. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising, remarketing, or Google signals. You can reject analytics cookies; essential payment cookies are unaffected.

Legal basis: Consent (UK GDPR / PECR). You can change your mind by clearing site data for this domain (which resets the consent preference) or contacting us.

## 3. Cookies

This website uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies:
- Cookie consent preference — stored in your browser’s local storage under the key zakat-cookie-consent, recording whether you accepted or rejected analytics. Contains no personal data beyond that choice.
- Stripe payment cookies — if you proceed to a donation checkout, Stripe (our payment processor) sets cookies necessary to process your payment securely. These are subject to [Stripe's own privacy policy](https://stripe.com/gb/privacy).
- Google Analytics cookies — only if you Accept analytics. Typical identifiers include _ga and _ga_*, set by Google to distinguish visitors in aggregate. Google’s processing is described in the [Google Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy).

We do not use advertising or remarketing cookies. Fonts are self-hosted and served from our own server, so no font requests are sent to third-party CDNs.

## 4. How we share your data

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data. We share data only as follows:
- Stripe, Inc. — our payment processor. Stripe handles all card data. We never see or store your card number. Stripe is PCI DSS Level 1 certified. See [Stripe's privacy policy](https://stripe.com/gb/privacy).
- Google LLC — if you accept analytics cookies, page-usage data is processed by Google Analytics on our behalf under Google’s terms for GA4. We configure GA4 without ads personalisation and without Google signals.
- Gift Aid — this form currently does not collect new declarations or offer Gift Aid claims. Historical records, if any, remain subject to the applicable retention policy.

## 5. How long we keep your data
- Donation records and Gift Aid declarations — 7 years from the date of donation under our record-retention policy
- Email subscribers — until you unsubscribe
- Server access logs — 30 days
- Google Analytics data — retained in GA4 according to the property’s data-retention setting (typically 2–14 months for event-level data); aggregated reports may be kept longer

## 6. Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Right to rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Right to erasure — ask us to delete your data (subject to legal retention requirements)
- Right to restrict processing — ask us to pause processing of your data
- Right to data portability — request your data in a portable format
- Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [privacy@worldaidnetwork.org](mailto:privacy@worldaidnetwork.org). We will respond within 30 days.

## 7. How to complain

If you have a concern about how we handle your data, please contact us first. If you remain unsatisfied, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO):

ICO helpline: 0303 123 1113
Website: [ico.org.uk](https://ico.org.uk/)
