A useful Zakat calculator explains its method, price dates, supported assets and limitations. It should handle nisab correctly, show a clear breakdown and distinguish an estimate from a personal ruling. No tool is best for every school, asset mix or financial situation.

## Check the calculation, not the slogan

Look for a tool that shows gross eligible assets, permitted deductions, net wealth and the threshold used. Once the conditions are met, the usual 2.5% should apply to the whole net amount. A below-nisab result should not be presented as an obligatory payment.

## Look for dated prices and manual control

Nisab changes with metal values. A good tool identifies the source date, explains its weight convention and reports failures honestly. Historical calculations need historical prices. A label saying “live” is not enough.

## Match the tool to your assets

Gold purity, investment methods, pensions and debts need more than one cash field. Check whether a tool supports actual eligible values as well as proxies. Avoid double-counting between savings, ISAs and investment accounts.

## Review privacy and sources

Find out where saved values are stored and whether a shared link exposes them. Look for sources that support specific claims, and do not confuse a medical reviewer with a specialist review of religious calculations.
